Descend from the highlands towards the southern coastline, where tea-covered hills gradually give way to palm-fringed beaches and ocean views. On arrival in Galle, explore the historic fort, where cobbled streets, colonial architecture and coastal vistas create a relaxed and atmospheric setting. 
 
Overnight: Fort Bazaar, Galle

Set out early for Mirissa, one of the region’s best-known locations for whale watching. Depending on the season, there is the opportunity to observe blue whales, sperm whales and dolphins in their natural habitat. 
 
During off-season periods, a traditional mask-making experience may be offered as an alternative, providing insight into Sri Lanka’s cultural craftsmanship. Return to Galle for an afternoon at leisure.
